I hand-tooled the design onto a piece of heavy-weight vegetable-tanned leather. I left it natural in color but applied antique paste and a clear acrylic finish on top to help protect the leather. The bottom is unfinished and will absorb any liquids, so please be careful.
This coaster measures 3.5" by 3.5" and is about 1/8" of an inch thick.
I originally designed these leather coasters for use with a coffee mug, but I have found that they work well with cold beverages, too, just as long as the glass isn't too wet from condensation. The water won't hurt the leather, but it might discolor the clear finish and stiffen the leather. If it does get wet, let it dry for a day or so and gently flex it to soften it up.
